“We have a great group here in our council who are ready to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever they are needed. Service to those and need and our church is most important to us. To be Grand Knight of such an active and inspiring council is an honor I am thankful for each day," Grand Knight George Ribellino said.

The Star Council award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership, promotion of the fraternal insurance program, and sponsorship of service-oriented charitable activities. The award was presented to the membership at a special ceremony held at the Knights of Columbus Museum on Nov. 14.

Some of the highlights over the last fraternal year included the task of painting and remolding the chapel at the Notre Dame Convalescent Home Convent Chapel as well as painting projects for Malta House. The council also did food and supply drives for the St. Matthew Food Pantry and Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport.

The Saint Matthew Knights assists St Matthew parish and organizations such as All Saints Catholic School, Notre Dame Convalescent Home, FCA, Al’s Angels, Fisher House and Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport.

To earn the distinction, a council must actively participate in several service programs centered on church, community, council, family, youth, and culture of life while also growing its membership by at least 7 percent, including growth in those who participate in the various insurance programs the Order has to offer.

Council 14360 achieved these goals, and was also one of the most active councils in Connecticut.
